Davidsmeyer opposes new pension plan

Bipartisan lawmakers including Republican state Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer of Jacksonville are opposing a proposed pension cost shift from the state to local school districts as an unfunded mandate that will raise property taxes and cut classroom resources.

House Resolution 27, which opposes the pension cost shift on homeowners, already has been co-signed by more than 40 Republican and Democrat state representatives.

“The state is in charge of the pension system and state lawmakers and the governor decide what the pension benefits are,” Davidsmeyer said. “So I think the state of Illinois should have some amount of responsibility for funding those benefits prescribed.”
